Eiderdown

Announcing Eiderdown, the New Fan-Funded Album

Many of you were very generous in your support of Providence, which was released last August. The record was balloted for a GRAMMY award and is doing very well on the Global Music Charts.

I'm excited to invite you to be an important part of my next project. I have new songs ready to go and a very good reason to get started so soon after Providence… I'm planning on moving from NJ to Maine this year. (Don't worry – I will still tour in the NJ/PA/NY area.) The one person I trust with my sound is Eric Troyer, one of the absolute best in the music business. As my engineer and co-producer, Eric is a big part of the reason that Providence turned out so well and gaining recognition on the global music charts. As you can imagine, I'd like to record and co-produce Eiderdown with Eric NOW in order to to ensure the quality that my fans and I expect.

What will Eiderdown be like?

Eiderdown will include about a dozen songs with my usual mix of musical flavors. With this album, I want to produce a sound that closely resembles a live performance to give you a more intimate listening experience. Eiderdown will primarily feature guitar and vocals. I’d like to add one guest instrumentalist and/or a vocal harmony on each song.

When will Eiderdown be released?

To give Providence a full year to blossom, the new album will be released late in 2019 or early 2020.

Why am I fan-funding?

Making music for a living is fulfilling, but it’s financially challenging and getting more difficult every day. Like most musicians, the majority of my income is derived from live performances. The way listeners consume music has changed dramatically. We live in a time when very few people pay for recorded music, which makes it ever more difficult for independent artists to finance recording projects.

While crowd-funding sites are popular, I’ve decided not to use them to handle pledges for Eiderdown. Many crowd-funding projects are all or nothing, meaning artists don't get a dime if they don't reach their goal. Plus, recent news reports have detailed how artists have not received funds from some crowd-funding sites. Crowd-funding platforms also take up 8-15% of the collected funds. Wait...8-15%?! Instead, I’m electing to keep things between you and me so that 100% of the pledges go into the music I want to create for you. As I did with Providence, I’m reaching out to people who are familiar with my work – hence, ‘fan-funding’.

With that in mind, I’m contacting fans and potential pledging partners who want to support the arts and help me deliver my music to you and others who love my stories and melodies.

What is the Eiderdown goal?

A music project involves recording, guest musician fees, post production mixing and mastering, graphic design, manufacturing, and a hefty amount of publicity on the heels of a release. I’m asking for your support to assist with some of these costs. I’m looking to raise $5,000 through pledges by February 28, 2019.

How can you be involved?
