WHISPERS FROM THE WOODS

"Whispers from the Woods: i. Annunciation, ii. Woods Étude,
iii. Twilight"

i. Annunciation

A thrush sings, veiled and out of sight,
As pale of day melts into night.
It calls, as if it understood
The wraithlike whispers from the woods.

ii. Woods Étude (instrumental)

iii. Twilight

Twilight, slayer of the sun…
Twilight, darkness has begun.
Twilight, harbinger of dreams…
Twilight, hides a thousand screams.

So we ponder all our passions that we’ve played,
And we consecrate connections that we’ve made.
Still we wonder why we wander while they stay
In our fantasies that we bought for free.

Twilight, the moon will tell you lies…
Twilight, the secrets of the skies.
Go and court the constellations o’er the ground,
As we search the stellar wheel as it spins ’round,
And we follow all the footsteps that we’ve found.
We all play our part in this game of hearts.

The great delusion is the supposition we all stand alone.
Where will we wander when we squander everything at home?
There is no secret savior who will sanctify and save us from ourselves.
Chasing the silver and the gold has fashioned our own hell.

Yet we cheat and chase the nexus money buys,
Disregard the fragile balance of our lives,
Cast away the truth to court convenient lies.
We are bought and sold by the dreams we hold.

Light a lamp for lucid clarity.
What is good for us may not be good for we.
Though we try and meet our needs with scones and tea,
If we feed our soul, it will make us whole.

Twilight, slayer of the sun…
Twilight, darkness has begun.
Twilight, harbinger of dreams…
Twilight, hides a thousand screams.

So we ponder all our passions that we’ve played,
And we consecrate connections that we’ve made.
Yet we cheat and chase the nexus money buys,
Disregard the fragile balance of our lives,
Light a lamp for lucid clarity.
Individuality is an illusion. Can’t you see?

"The Gift"

Young girl in a meadow, dandelions ‘round her feet,
Blowing seeds of wishes in the wind.
Little boy by a fishing hole, laughin’ in the sun
On a summer’s day that seems to have no end.

Don’t you disturb them. Don’t break that magic spell.
Childhood will soon desert them. We know the story well.

Chorus: The breaching of our innocence,
The breaking of the dawn,
Battering where our illusions lie.
We all have our memories
Of times our worlds stood still
And revealed the gift that showed us how to fly.

Mothers meet their newborns laid upon their breasts,
Fathers’ arms will guard them through the night.
Parents tell their tales about the days when they were young
And whisper prayers as they turn out the light.

Don’t you disturb them. Don’t break that magic spell.
Childhood will soon desert them. We know the story well.

Chorus

Ah, we can’t hold on.
It’s gone before the morning.
It leads us farther on
And seems to end without warning.

Old eyes stare into the sky surrounded by the sound,
The ticking that begins when we are born.
Wishes once blown in the wind return to be fulfilled,
A father’s arms to catch them when they fall.

Don’t you disturb them. Don’t break that magic spell.
Childhood will soon reclaim them. We know the story well.

Chorus

Revealed the gift that showed us how to fly,
Revealed the gift that showed us how to fly.

"Shine"

I guess I never took the time to see, the truth that lay inside,
Those times I let myself get close to you, a part of me would hide.
Too many gazes I’ve caught by surprise reflected in the glass.
They cried out pleading for redemption and a way to change the past.

And every day we shared was haunted by a sorrow in your eyes,
You hid your tears behind bravado, like a melancholy bride,
I chose to drown you in expectancy, what I was told should be.
You were forsaken at your fated altar far too frequently.

And somewhere down the road ahead, I heard you cry to me.
Somewhere down the road where I was far too scared to see.

Chorus: Yeah, there’s a part of you that lives and yearns to shine.
Yeah, go and take that chance, the days are slipping by.

Go ahead and shine.

Our dreams will drift and fly like angels that we sense but cannot see.
Some hover out in our periphery. Some beg on bended knee,
But those that linger feed desires that dwell deep inside our heads,
Pervade and permeate our consciousness and creep into our beds.

The voice resounding in our hearts when we were green and young,
Too often lies abandoned when into the world we’re flung.

You may find yourself with all you wanted but nothing that you need.
Each moment offers up another chance to shape what’s yet to be.

And somewhere down the road I knew, I heard you cry to me.
Somewhere down that dreamy road, you delivered me.

Chorus x2

Go ahead and - Shine.
Go ahead and - Shine.
Yeah, go ahead and shine.

"Common Ground"

“Hey, babe, the sky’s on fire,”
Mr. Taylor told me in his song,
Jackson doesn’t know just
Where’s he’s running. He’s just running on.

Joni’s on a carousel,
Neil is underneath a Harvest Moon.
This world had a place
For a gambler that left us far too soon.

Desperado, Father and Son,
Teach Your Children, Born to Run.

Chorus: Melodies and lyric lines
Standing on shoulders of giants,
Court the muse, pursue the sound,
Born anew from common ground.

Dylan followed Guthrie
Hendrix turned the watchtower on its head.
J.S. Bach to Jethro Tull,
“Bourée” became a common thread.

“Ghost Riders in the Sky”
Paved the way for “Riders on the Storm.”
There is nothing you can play
That hasn’t been inspired from before.

Purple, Sabbath, Skynyrd, and Queen,
Mozart, Zeppelin, Beatles, and Cream

Chorus

Tell me, can you hear it the roots of rock and roll,
The message on a wire tugging at your soul?
Classical to fusion, the essence is the same.
A passion for creation, refusing to be tamed.
From concert hall to some garage in your neighborhood,
From black tie in the orchestra to grunge, it’s understood.
Music can be haunting, living, swimming in your head
To Jerry pickin’ his guitar playing with the Dead.

Chorus

Take my hand, I’ll lead you down,
Where the mystery is found,
When the muse becomes the sound,
Something new from common...
Something new from common...
Something new from common ground.

"Brilliant"

Dance in the light;
Let it rest upon your shoulders.
Learn from the wind,
A thousand whispered souls.
Sail through the sky,
On breezy wings of zephyrs.
Reach for the stars;
Let heaven be your guide.

Chorus: For you were born to dance with angels.
Nothin’ holds you down.
Fill your life with love and laughter.
Make a joyful sound. For you are…
Brilliant.

Follow your heart
Through all life’s crests and canyons.
Smile every day;
It will lighten all your cares.
Swallow the sun.
Be the candle in the darkness.
Weather the tears
As the Earth receives her rain.

Chorus
You are brilliant.

Fuel the fire in your heart;
Let it shine and shimmer.
Your gifts are yours alone to share.

And I know you can dance with angels.
Nothin’ holds you down.
Fill your life with love and laughter.
Make a joyful sound…

Yes, you were born to dance with angels.
Nothin’ holds you down.
Fill your life with love and laughter.
Make a joyful sound…

Yes, you were born to dance with angels.
Nothin’ holds you down.
Fill your life with love and laughter.
Make a joyful sound. For you are…
Brilliant. You are brilliant.
Brilliant. You are brilliant.

"There Was a Time"

There was a time when imagination ruled.
There was a time for innocence and play.
There was a time parents read you stories.
There was a time when the world was kept at bay.

There was a time for climbing trees and branches.
There was a time you saw magic in the sky.
There was a time for fireflies and fairies.
There was a time you loved to watch the clouds drift by.

And there was a time when back yards turned to school yards.
There was a time they gauged you by your grades.
There was a time you learned to seek possessions.
There was a time when your world became a stage.

Chorus: There was a time that seemed so fast and fleeting.
There was a time that caught you unawares.
There was a time that seemed to last forever,
Yet it quivered and it withered in the wind.

There was a time you questioned every answer.
There was a time rebellion ruled your days.
There was a time you thought you’d live forever.
There was a time you stepped into the maze.

And there was a time you sought solace in a lover.
There was a time illusions turned to stone.
There was a time for deadlines and commitments.
There was a time you lost the child inside you’d known.

Chorus

Interlude

There’ll come a time you’ll yearn to be much younger.
You will feel your childhood calling,

There’ll come a time you’ll hunger for the past.
                                    Thisting for sweet, wistful memories,
There’ll come a time … your dreams grow worn with age.
Youthful dreams, eyes full of wonder,
There’ll come a time you’ll see that promised hand to clasp.
With a promised hand to clasp.

Chorus
Yet it quivered and it withered in the wind.
There was a time.
There was a time.
There was a time.

"Fly"

We gather together, faithful pilgrims and our kin.
Say goodbye to friends that we will never see again.
Board a wooden ship to take us far across the sea
To a new land called America where we will all be free.

Brave the storms and sickness, consequences of our dream.
Settle on a coastline in a place we’ve never seen.
Some of us will prosper if we manage to survive.
Others make their peace with God and lift their eyes to…

Chorus: Fly… Challenges and changes,
Fly… The dream is worth the dangers,
Fly… Fly

Harness up the horses for the trail that’s headin’ west.
Say goodbye to friends that we will never see again.
Drive those Conestogas ‘cross the mountains’ Great Divide
To a place called California, land of gold where eagles…

Chorus

Chorus

Set out north as refugees from war and violence,
Driven from our homelands we will never see again.
Our children could be “Dreamers,” if they cross that desert heat.
To America, our huddled masses yearn to flee and…

Fly… Challenges and changes,
Fly… The dream is worth the dangers,
Fly… Challenges and changes,
Fly… The dream is worth the dangers,
Fly… Fly

"Push"

Just a little push,
Just a little release,
Just a little lift to get me through the night.

Started as a whisper.
Grew to be a scream.
The illusion of a savior’s now
The devil that I feed.
The savior’s now the devil that I feed.

But the angel at my window
Brings me all the comfort that I need,
And the angel hovering at my window
Promises to watch over me.
She promises to watch over me.

Colors all around me,
Colors I can’t see,
Colors that have long since faded to grey.

Everybody sees it,
The brighter side of me,
But I can’t let them see
The darkness that I bleed.
No, they can’t see the darkness that I bleed.

But the angel at my window
Brings me all the comfort that I need,
And the angel flies in through my window
And promises to watch over me.
She promises to watch over me.

Ahh, ahh, ahh…

One more push,
One more release,
One more - ahhh - to try and dull the pain.

I’m washing in the weightlessness.
I’m floating in the light,
I’m hearing all the feathers
That carry me in flight.
The feathers that carry me in flight.

And the angel at my window
Brings me all the comfort that I need.
And the angel leads me through my window and
Promises to watch over me.
She flies me to the light where I am... free.

Can you hear a heartbeat?
C’mon. C’mon. C’mon!
Can you get a heartbeat?
C’mon. C’mon! C’mon!
Can you get a heartbeat?
C’mon. Please.
Can you hear a heart beat?

"Hymn to Love"

My love, you dwell within my heart,
Our pleasure knows no par,
My peace, my home, my source of light,
My morn and evening star.

For neither shall the devil's scorn
Nor angels' radiancy,
Shall ever turn my thoughts from you.
My love is bound to thee.

Hear me truly.
Hear me truly.

For when it comes my time to go,
From you, I shan't be far.
Think of me as a bird in flight
And something like a star.

Think of me, as a bird in flight
And something like a star.
