You know the old phrase "Kids today"? It usually is spoken by older folks who think kids these days have it so easy. Well, they don't. I decided to turn this phrase on its head.

Lyrics

"Kids Today"

“Kids today,” you’ve heard all the old folks say.
“Kids today… they’re not like we used to be.”
We played in yards in cowboy hats
With Tonka trucks and baseball bats.
They stay inside with video games.
Their cell phones keep the world away.

“Kids today… don’t know what we had to face.
“Kids today… can’t cope with the human race.
We had toy guns with roll cap sounds
Today their streets are killing grounds.
We used to wish upon the moon.
Today they grow up far too soon.

We prayed to God, learned the Golden Rule.
They pray to make it home from school.
Our planet has been rearranged
Pandemics, terror, climate change.

They say there’s wisdom in the eyes of age (eyes of age)
We’ve all inherited the cards in play (cards in play)
The future offers us promise and pain (promise and pain)
Together, we must find a better way.
A better way… a better way. Mmm hmm hmm hmm

Kids today. You should hear the old folks say.
Kids today… can’t be like we used to be.
We’ve got to turn this world around.
Survival is our common ground.
Recall in all you do and say
What it’s like to be our kids today.

Kids today
Kids today
Ahh… kids today
Kids today
